Hi, most pet and other trackers require a SIM card. Tractive and other off the shelf solutions from retailers/online supply this as an all in one solution, but their subscription fee is quite expensive, often £15 or more per month.
Here’s how to use your own SIM card and make it a lot cheaper monthly (only £5 or less). This example uses a UK SIM but feel free to try other sims worldwide and post your results below in the comments.
So how do you do it?
All you need is a zx908 ready made board. Just £12.40. It’s usb (for charging), gsm (for data transmission to your phone via the 365gps app) and gps to do the location mathematics.
Then you’ll just need to power it up with a 3.7 volt rechargeable lipo battery, like this one. It will be recharged using the in built usb port on the board.
Install a data only 2gb £5/month smarty SIM card if you live in the uk. I’ve not tried other sims but would be good if others can post other successful sims across the globe in the comments to help others if they need to use a different sim and/ or network.
Download the 365gps app on your phone and configure the board using these instructions:
Lastly enclose the whole thing in a case/ enclosure like this one and you’re done! I’m currently working on a smaller more compact enclosure to be less clunky on a pets collar. But for now this will do the trick.
Fire up the app and watch your pet, car or bike run around. Happy tracking!
